Time is something of an essence in this world. When it’s not used wisely, you don’t have enough of it to do what you need to do. Rest, time with your family and recreation time all suffer when you have to spend most of your time working.
Interruptions need to be considered as you draft a schedule. You must schedule travel time and a little flex time so that you will be able to realistically accomplish the tasks on your list. If you plan ahead for the interruptions, you can still stay on schedule.
Focus on the task at hand to gain mastery over your time management skills. You cannot do everything the right way when you are multi-tasking with too many things. If you try to multi-task excessively, you will just end up tired and producing poor quality work. Concentrate on only one project at a time, and don’t move onto the next one until the first one is completed.
Prioritize all of your tasks. Sometimes, meaningless tasks can get in the way of your day. Ordering your tasks based on what is most important will let you focus on the most important ones. Start off with a to-do list, and put the most important chores at the top of the list.
Make sure you are always using your time wisely. You want to use your time efficiently. Check your messages at designated times only. Looking at emails during work time can waste a lot of valuable time.
Every morning, work out a schedule for the day. Get a pen and a piece of paper and write down what you will do during the day and how much time you plan on doing it for. When you do this, you can be much more efficient about your time.
If you desire to improve your work efficiency, do not hesitate to close the door to your office. An open door invites intrusions. Just by shutting your door, your time will be your own, and you will be able to focus. You will be able to do things on time when people know you are trying to focus.
Unless it is absolutely necessary for you to do so, don’t answer the phone, a text message, or instant message when you’re doing something else. It can be difficult for you to start getting back to your task if you get interrupted. If it’s not emergency, ignore other less important things until you complete the first thing you are working on.
Take a peek at the schedule you have. Look to see if there are any items that you can delete from your schedule. Are there tasks you can share with others? Learning to delegate tasks is on the list of the most useful time management skills out there. After you hand off the responsibility for something to another individual, truly wash your hands of the task and move on to something else.
Stay focused on a task in order to make life easier. Don’t let yourself become distracted by all things shiny. Others will try to slip in tasks for you to do before you have finished what you are working on. Avoid letting anyone do this. Finish your first task and then start another.
Know that everything cannot be done in one day. In fact, most of the time, it is impossible. For most people, 20 percent of their activity is responsible for 80 percent of what they accomplish. Do what you can, but set expectations that are realistic.
Take care of difficult tasks early. The harder, more time-consuming a chore is, the sooner you should finish it. This will relieve you of pressure so that you can fly through the menial tasks. When the stressful portion of your day is completed early, the rest of your day will seem to cruise by.
Wasting time is horrible. This is even more true if you don’t get enough relaxation and rest. If you want a good quality of life, you need to manage your time well. Follow the tips above to manage your time better and enjoy life a little more.
